Taejôn (Daejeon)

Daejeon is situated in the central area of the nation and is a transportation hub which includes the convergence of rail services and the nearby Cheongju International Airport. Daejeon is a city of advanced science and technology and is home to Daedok Research Complex. It is also the nation's second administration capital with a complex housing a number of government agencies. The city has a population of 1.062 million.

Tourist attractions, popular among domestic and foreign tourists, include the world class Yuseong Hot Spring Resort and the Bomun Mountain Park. In 1993, the Daejeon International Expo drew 14 million tourists from home and abroad. Now the Expo site has been transformed into the Expo Science Park and an amusement park.

After the 2002 World Cup, Daejeon Metropolitan City plans to continue to host various domestic and foreign events and promote its new World Cup stadium for commercial, cultural and sports occasions.
