FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Why does stadium X not figure in the tables?

In the stadium tables per country/association and the tables of stadiums with a +30.000 capacity per confederation only stadiums that are used for football matches at present at the national competition levels (leagues/divisions) mentioned in the header of the page present are included. Generally these competition levels are the professional football leagues (p. ex. 4 levels in England and Italy, 3 levels in Germany, France and Spain, 2 levels in Greece, Netherlands, Portugal etc.). When a team is relegated from the stated levels its stadium remains in the table – when a team is promoted to the stated levels its stadium is added.

Note: Stadiums which are not used on a regular basis are signed with a footnote. Stadiums which used to welcome football matches, but don’t do anymore, figure at the bottom of the page in an additional table. There is also an additional table for stadiums which are under work or planned to be built or renovated.

Can I find stadiums which are not used for football on this site?

Stadiums of a +60.000 capacity which are not used for football but for other sports are included in the “Specials” section (+60.000 Non-Football stadiums list and +60.000 General stadiums list).

Why don’t city and stadium names figure in English language?

All city, stadium and club names figure where possible in their local language. In countries where characters different from the latin characters (p. ex. China, Russia, Greece etc.) are used the best judged transliteration system (to English standards) is used. In case a city name is completely different in local language from common English, French or German corresponding names (p. ex. Krung Thep = Bangkok in Thai) the English name is stated in brackets.

Where can I find explanations or a legend concerning the tables?

Just above the tables in the header of the page you can click on “Description of table” where you can find detailed explanations concerning the data you find in the tables.

Where do the informations about the stadiums come from?

As I do not want to rely on informations published anywhere on internet sites I contact - where possible - the clubs themselves and the country's football associations in order to obtain exact and up-to-date information. When I received information about stadium capacities from a club, the stadium management or a national or league association it is marked in white colour in the tables. Stadiums for which official data is not available but information found on p. ex. fan sites or other sources the capacity is marked in pink/red colour.
